Description
The journey of black pepper is very simple. After picking up the peppercorn from the vine, all that is left to do is dry it properly. The result is black-colored, rough textured pepper seed. Black pepper can be used as a seed itself or a powdered version. It gives a spicy and peppery kick when you bite into a black pepper seed. And it adds a specialty to the dish when black pepper seeds are added.
It is not limited to adding to curries and savory dishes. Sri Lankans love to eat fruits with black pepper added. Such as apples, unripe mangoes, and guavas. Same as other spices in existence, black pepper also has some medicinal value to it too. It helps with weight loss by decelerating the fat formation inside the body. And it also reduces blood sugar levels by improving insulin sensitivity and stopping some enzymes that digest sugar.
